'Don't tell my HOA!': Mom cat, dad cat and their 4 kittens show up on woman's porch, she falls in love but does the right thing, getting mom and the babies TNR'd, letting the kittens get adopted in pairs, and feeding the still-stray father in secret

Doing the right thing is not always easy, especially when it comes to cats.

We can't save all cats ourselves. This is something I learned very quickly. Cats are territorial, cats take up space, they need their own space, they need their peace. I didn't grow up with cats, so I didn't quite understand that. And when I adopted my first kitten, a part of me believed I could save them all. She was so purrfect. Healthy and calm and sweet. What's the harm in bringing in the building cats that I feed? Except it's not that easy. First of all, there are too many of them, and my apartment is too small and with a balcony on the 13th floor. Second of all, all cats have their own purrsonalities, and mine is a skittish, shy one, who doesn't love new creatures in her space. And third, I'm not sure all those stray cats would want to be adopted.

Still, there is a right and wrong thing to do. That is what the person who shared their story on r/CatDistributionSystem has learned. You may not be able to adopt all cats yourself, but help is something that you can offer to basically every single cat. This person already had three cats. They couldn't adopt mom, dad and their four kittens, and adopting just one kitten would have meant separating siblings. So, as painful as it was, this person did the right thing and didn't adopt. She helped the mother and four kittens get TNR'd, helping them get to a shelter and giving the kittens the chance to get adopted in pairs. The father, who refused to be caught, they will continue feeding and helping. And the mother… if she has trouble getting adopted, there is someone out there who's willing to add one more cat to their bunch if need be.

We understand the heartbreak, we really do. But this was the right thing to do. We can't save them all on our own, no matter how much we want to.

This is the thing that matters most right now. The kittens are adorable. They will be fine. But momma cat would be very happy with you if no one else takes her. Her husband is in the backyard, waiting to have window visits with her.
